Here at Boom Box Post we have an exciting internship program that runs throughout the year. During the program each of our 2 interns will shadow editors, record foley props and participate in a series of lessons encompassing the different sound services Boom Box provides. This includes dialogue editing, sound effects editing, mixing and more. For more information on our internship program click here. We collect applications year round and would love to hear from you!
Our newest class of interns began about a month ago and have done a great job learning about sound editing and recording as well as showing their passion for sound. We hope you enjoy this brief look into our program and our stellar interns: Liz Roman and Amanda Niles.

What inspired you to learn about sound?
I took an Audio 101 class when I was working on my Music Industry Studies major and I really liked that class, it really interested me. I took a second major in Audio/Radio Productions ended up taking a lot of sound design classes, which is where I met Jessey Drake, who spoke in oneclass , and that inspired me. Basically I got in contact with her to learn about more sound and I decided to apply for the internship and travel to California!
What is your favorite animated film or TV show?
Probably Big Hero 6. The characters are so cute, and I love Pixar movies! I’m also watching the Cyanide Happiness Youtube series. They’re really horrible, but I love them!
What is your favorite weird or unusual sound?
There’s a truck outside of my apartments whose horn plays La Cucaracha at least 5 times a day. At first I was like wow, this is amazing, but now I just want it to stop.
What is your favorite Arctic animal?
I like Narwhals, they look like unicorns but in the ocean! I remember seeing them in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer a few years ago.

What inspired you to learn about sound?
When I started as a student at LMU I hadn’t really done much of any kind of sound work, but it seemed like something that would fit in with my interests. When I started working on a friends’ animation project, that’s when i really started to see how much you can do with sound to make something really fun and interesting.
What is your favorite animated film or TV show?
I really like Steven Universe right now. I really like the storyline, love the characters, the music is amazing, and I like the message. There’s a lot of emphasis on love and trust. Also Moana was SO good. I think the colors were beautiful. I love bright and colorful things, which is partly why I like animation as much as I do.
What is your favorite weird or unusual sound?
One time I had to do something to do with rice, and I was pouring it into a coffee mug. I kept repeating it over and over, because I really like bright tinkly sparkling sounds I guess.
What is your favorite Arctic animal?
My favorite animals are Harp Seals because they look like the labrador puppies of the arctic.
