WHAT GRABBED YOUR INTEREST IN SOUND FOR TELEVISION & FILM?
What really drew me in initially was the creativity and seemingly endless possibilities in sound design. In school, my degree focused primarily on studio recording and mixing for music. I still love working with music, but it’s not very often you get to record yourself ripping apart vegetables or stomping around in corn starch. I also love the impact sound can have on a show - even the most subtle sounds can change the way you experience a story.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP?
My favorite part about the internship has probably been shadowing the editors. It’s been really interesting to observe the differences between how each person works and learn about why they choose the sounds they do.
WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST OR FAVORITE SOUND YOU HAVE EVER HEARD?
That’s a hard question! I don’t know if I have a favorite, but I’m a big fan of the sounds you can make with aluminum foil.
WHAT IS YOUR GO TO TV SHOW TO BINGE WATCH?
The most recent show I binge watched was definitely Stranger Things. I love the new season!

WHAT GRABBED YOUR INTEREST IN SOUND FOR TELEVISION & FILM?
I feel like I should have realized my passion for sound back in high school. I was in a film class and decided to make a horror short. My whole reason for choosing to make a horror film was because I wanted use all those crazy sound effects you hear in scary movies and trailers. However, it wasn’t until my freshman year of college that I realized I wanted to pursue sound. A friend and I were discussing our favorite professors and she mentioned her intro to sound class. I took the class for the professor but ended up falling in love with sound editing. Thanks Professor Fausak!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP?
The sound effects project has been my favorite part by far. Not only was it a fun clip to edit, but I learned a lot from that project in general.
Similarly, the final projects have been a highlight as well.
WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST OR FAVORITE SOUND YOU HAVE EVER HEARD?
My favorite sound? Definitely anything magical! Maybe the wands in Harry Potter? There’s something so simple and satisfying about the sound they make. I wish I could wave a wooden stick in real life and get the same effect.
WHAT IS YOUR GO TO TV SHOW TO BINGE WATCH?
I don’t have cable anymore so I don’t really watch a lot of TV but I used to dvr every single episode of The Simpsons. New episodes and repeats! I would watch it every single day after school. My parents hated it.
A friendly reminder that our internship program runs year round and you can apply for it here.
