AN INTERVIEW WITH KATIE MAYNARD
SOUND EFFECTS EDITOR, BOOM BOX POST
Katie was hired as a sound effects editor a few months ago and today we are going to get to know more about her career at Boom Box thus far and some advice/goals she has!
What has been your biggest challenge so far as a new sound effects editor?
I think my biggest challenge has been not overcutting and to put only the sound effects I need. I do not need to put so many layers that waste my time when they are not necessary.
Who has inspired you most at Boom Box?
That is a hard one to answer because everyone here as inspired me. I would say Tess has inspired me the most, though. She is the person that I work the closest with and she helped me with my first show. I just really appreciate all of her help and always being there to answer any questions that I have.
What has been your favorite memory at Boom Box thus far?
I had a really good time when we all got together and went bowling. It is nice spending time with everyone outside of the office.
What is one goal that you have as a SFX editor?
I definitely want to get better at cutting cars, but honestly all vehicles in general.
If you could give any advice to others wanting to get into the industry what would you tell them?
I would say to practice with a wide variety of projects. It is important to do internships, student projects, and your own personal projects so you can figure out what it is that you want to do.
