Lunch and Learn: Monster Transformation — Boom Box Post

WRITTEN BY Mak Kellerman

Sound Effects Editor, BOOM BOX POST

I worked on a project recently that had a giant wooden monster transformation. Here's how I designed it!

First off I thought about the elements I wanted to include to make the transformation sound organic and badass - wood splinters and breaks, vine stretches, leather creaks and flesh tears. After layering a handful of those sounds together I added a final vine/leather stretch file that ascends over the entire transformation to really drive it home.

The next part of the build I added some squishiness for a gross effect on the monster's face transforming. I also added metal sword shings to portray to the listener that the monster's teeth are sharp and dangerous.

Then I made 2 large footsteps for the monster. Once again I added a metal shing to portray that the monsters legs are sharp and dangerous.

Here is the final result with everything put together
