A while back, I was asked to “stretch my creativity” a bit and record some original sounds for a new series here at Boom Box Post. My objective: create a fresh take on the classic “rubber stretch.” We wanted something new and different that still inspired the same feelings of tension and impending release that the classic balloon rubbing/cable twisting has. I ended up working with a recording of my finger running along the sticky side of a strip of packing tape. Below is an edit of that recording so you can hear it for yourself:
For this week’s post I thought it might be fun to take this one “stretch” further and create several new variations of the rubber stretch.

With that, I challenge you to create your own takes on classic cartoon sounds. Remember that the most compelling sounds are not always those that sound similar to effects we’ve heard in the past, but rather those which instill a similar emotion. From boings to bonks, I’m sure you can create some really interesting and funny effects, keeping your library interesting and fresh.
